Handling Unsafe Links Within Microsoft Office 365

Users of Microsoft Office 365 Home and Office 365 Personal benefit from the screening of attachments and links contained in the messages received in Outlook, and this is in addition to the spam and malware filtering provided for all Outlook.com users. For Office 365 Enterprise customers, this can be handled by ATP (Advanced Threat Protection) Safe Links.

This feature provides at the time of click, the verification of URLs contained within the content of email messages and in Microsoft Office files. Once scanned, links deemed as safe remain accessible, whereas malicious links are then dynamically blocked.

If setting up Office 365 Safe Links Protection, those responsible for your organisations IT security will first review the Office 365 ATP Safe Links policy that applies to everyone within your organisation, this is known as the default policy.

The ATP Safe Links feature can be taken a further step, allowing additional policies with respect to ATP to be defined for specific recipients, for example excluding certain people or groups from clicking on a stated URL without ATP Safe Links protection verification.
