Microsoft Office 365 versus Microsoft Office 2016

Despite Microsoft having launched Microsoft Office 365 back in June 2011, there still remain some users and indeed smaller organisations still not entirely familiar with Microsoft Office 365, and indeed the benefits it has over the up-front purchase of the Microsoft Office suite for individual PCs (Office Professional 2016 retailing in July 2017 at £389.99 incl. VAT at the Microsoft Store).

The financial advantages of moving away from the model of having to find large sums to purchase the Microsoft Office suite for a number of PCs, to a low-cost monthly subscription are obvious. Less apparent however are the other numerous benefits which come through a Microsoft Office 365 subscription.

Firstly, for those not familiar at all with Microsoft Office 365 it’s essential to be aware that you still have and use the fully installed Microsoft Office suite applications that you’re used to such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. With Office 365 however, your applications will always be kept up-to-date with the latest versions, so there is no costly repurchase or upgrades required in the future. Further to the installed suite of applications, Microsoft Office 365 subscription users can also use a browser based version of the applications which is useful when away or when your own PC isn’t available to use.

Beyond the applications themselves you also receive online storage as part of the subscription, and there is also the option to run email by way of Microsoft Exchange.  For Organisations, there is also the ability to manage and add additional users easily, and users co-operating on work is also made much more straight forward when using the applications via Microsoft Office 365.

Microsoft have made available many subscription types for Office 365 to suit a variety of user types and organisations, including for smaller businesses, enterprise, schools and non-profit organisations.
